I recently spent a 9 day trip at Fraser’ Hills. The main object of this trip was to introduce Fraser’s Hills montane birds species to a young staffers. His assignment was to also get some nice photographs of some of these birds. Most mornings until lunch were spent frequenting some of the better birding locations on the hill. After lunch and a short rest, birding would continue around 3.30 pm until dinner. Unfortunately there afternoon showers on most days that went until early evening that limited the birding times.

Nevertheless we did bird whenever the was a break in the weather however short the duration. Fortunately we did get at least 5 good and sunny days while the the other days were rained out. Being still early in September we knew we would not expect to see many of the migrantory species but nevertheless we did manage to record a handfull of them.

One happy sighting of a scarce resident bird that had not seen for several years was the stunningly beautiful Green Magpie. We did get a glimpse of the White Crowned Hornbill and marvelous views of a pair of Rhinoceros Hornbill on our final day along the drive down the hill before the Gap.
