Upon arrival at Kota Kinabalu International Airport we will send you to your hotel for some needed rest. The following morning you guide will pick you up and begin the tour. We take the scenic drive to Gunung Alab Bird Hide, located over 1400m asl to observe and photography for the many montane species found here and at the Trusmadi Hide a short 45 mins drive away. Padi View Rest House, at the quaint country town of Tambunan will be our base for the next 3 nights. On day 4 we will drive about 2 hours to Kinabalu Park. We will check in at our hotel and spend the next 3 days and 2 nights birding for montane species at the world renoun Kinabalu National Park and nearby areas. On day 6 , we will leave the highlands and head to agricultural town of Telupid. we will spend our time here for the opportunity to photography the Borneo Peacock Pheasant and the other specials here. We spend the night at IPS Resthouse. On day 7 we drive to the Sepilok. Our accommodation here for the next 2 nights is at Sepilok BnB, The following days offers a rich itinerary: morning birding at the Rainforest Discovery Centre, renowned for its canopy walkway and diverse avian species; visits to the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, the world’s oldest and largest orangutan rehabilitation center and the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, dedicated to the care and rehabilitation of the smallest bear species. The day concludes with a night walk at the Rainforest Discovery Centre, providing a glimpse into the nocturnal wonders of the Bornean rainforest.
The journey continues with a transfer to The Kinabatangan River, stopping en route at the Gomantong Caves, famed for their intricate limestone formations and swiftlet nests. In Sukau, take on evening and subsequent day cruises along the Kinabatangan River, Sabah’s longest river, offering opportunities to observe diverse wildlife, including including hornbills, egrets, herons, kingfishers, proboscis monkeys and pygmy elephants. We stay at Sukau Green View Lodge, located along the river for 2 nights.
The adventure proceeds with an overland transfer to Tabin Wildlife Resort for a full day of birding in one of Sabah’s largest wildlife reserves. The tour culminates at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge in Danum Valley, where a full day is dedicated to birding in this pristine primary rainforest, home to a vast array of endemic species.
The experience concludes with a transfer to Lahad Datu Airport for onward journeys.

Sepilok Rainforest
Begin at the Sepilok Rainforest, home to the renowned Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, where orphaned and rescued orangutans are rehabilitated and reintroduced into the wild. Adjacent to this is the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, dedicated to the world’s smallest bear species. The Rainforest Discovery Centre (RDC) provides an immersive experience into Borneo’s rich avian diversity, featuring a 147-meter-long canopy walkway that offers unparalleled views of the forest and its inhabitants. Bird enthusiasts can anticipate sightings of species such as the Black-crowned Pitta, Bornean Bristlehead, and various Hornbills.
Sukau Kinabatangan River
Proceed to the Kinabatangan River in Sukau, a biodiversity hotspot teeming with wildlife. River cruises offer opportunities to observe the endemic Proboscis Monkey, known for its distinctive nose, and the Bornean Pygmy Elephant, the smallest elephant subspecies. The area is also a haven for birdlife, with frequent sightings of hornbills, kingfishers, and the rare Storm’s Stork.
Tabin Wildlife Reserve
Continues at Tabin Wildlife Reserve, encompassing a vast dipterocarp rainforest that serves as a sanctuary for endangered species. The reserve is home to nine primate species, including the endangered Bornean Gibbon, and over 220 bird species, such as the Bornean Wren-Babbler and the Blue-headed Pitta. Tabin’s mud volcanoes attract wildlife seeking mineral-rich soils, providing excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Night safaris may reveal nocturnal creatures like the Clouded Leopard and the Slow Loris.
Danum Valley
Conclude in the pristine Danum Valley, a primary rainforest untouched by logging activities. This conservation area is a research hub and offers sightings of the rare Bornean Clouded Leopard, the Red Leaf Monkey, and a plethora of bird species, including all eight species of Bornean hornbills. The forest trails and canopy walkways provide intimate encounters with the rainforest’s flora and fauna, making Danum Valley a highlight for nature enthusiasts.
