A Biodiversity Powerhouse Tawau Hills Park is a spectacular primary rainforest ecosystem that serves as a vital refuge for Borneo’s rarest wildlife. The park’s impressive records include 338 species of birds and 109 species of mammals, making every trail an opportunity for a world-class encounter. Dominated by the three peaks of Mount Magdalena, Mount Lucia, and Mount Maria, the landscape offers a dramatic setting for high-intensity wildlife watching and deep jungle exploration.
Mammals and Avian Treasures The true stars of this journey are the diverse residents of the canopy and forest floor. Our primary targets include the charismatic Red Leaf Langur and the vocal Bornean Gibbons, alongside an incredible array of Hornbills and specialized montane birds. While the forest is not a zoo and sightings are never guaranteed, the undisturbed nature of this primary jungle provides the best possible chances to observe these animals behaving naturally in the wild.
Immersive Wildlife Safaris This tour is designed to maximize your time in the field through a structured schedule of early morning, late afternoon, and night walks. While the daylight hours belong to primates and birds, the forest transforms at night into a hotspot for rare snakes, frogs, and insects. Whether you are trekking the longer self-walk trails or joining our guided night expeditions, Tawau Hills provides a comprehensive 24-hour immersion into one of Borneo’s most stable tropical ecosystems.
Day 1 Arrive at Tawau International Airport (TWU) before or after lunch, depending on your flight schedule. Transfer to the park and check-in to your room, followed by free and easy time. At 4.30pm, begin the first late afternoon wildlife walk to spot primates and birds. After dinner, head out for a night wildlife walk to search for nocturnal species.
Day 2 Start the day at 7.00am with a morning wildlife walk, followed by breakfast at 8.30am. From 10.00am onwards, you have free and easy time to explore the longer trails on your own or visit the world’s tallest tropical trees. At 4.30pm, we reconvene for another late afternoon wildlife walk. After dinner, the adventure continues with a second guided night wildlife walk.
Day 3 Enjoy an optional early morning walk for last-minute wildlife sightings. After breakfast, pack your gear as the trip concludes with a transfer back to the airport or your next destination.
